Dosage

The dosage for cats is 10mg daily, 10mg on an as needed basis. Cats will be given either 5mg or 20mg of buspar daily, based on response to treatment.

The exact dosage for this treatment is not clear from the manufacturer but is based on our understanding of how buspar works and its potential side effects.

Common side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dry mouth, difficulty breathing or swallowing, increased appetite, increased heart rate, thirst, urination more often than usual, increased urination more often than usual, or excessive perspiration. Some cats may also experience light-headedness or fainting. Cats may develop a skin reaction such as reddening or itching when exposed to sun or sunlight. The skin may become reddened and blistered, especially in the ears and stomachs. Rarely, cats may develop a skin rash or dermatitis. Cats may also have an increased sense of taste. If a cat is bitten, or is exposed to direct sunlight, skin may become red, thick, and brittle. This may cause sunburn. The skin may also become more sensitive to heat and cold, making it more difficult to open and close the bite. If a cat is being treated with an antihistamine, the dog or other animal should be kept out of the sun. Cats that are exposed to sunlight should avoid excessive sun exposure, as the sun can burn the skin. This can cause them to become less able to urinate and become more sensitive to urination. The skin may also become more susceptible to a decrease in oxygen supply to the heart, which may result in cat heart disease. Cats that are in a coma after exposure to radiation should not eat or drink large amounts of oxygen, as the radiation can damage the heart and increase the risk of death. If a cat has been exposed to UV rays or is in a state of extreme heat or cold that is especially dangerous to them, they should be kept cool. Exposure to light or sound may cause them to become less sensitive to light or sound and therefore the cat should avoid exposure to it. If a cat has been exposed to UV rays or is in a state of state of extreme heat or cold that is particularly dangerous to them, they should be kept cool. Cats that are in a coma after exposure to radiation should avoid exposure to it.

Precautions

Inform your veterinarian if a cat is being treated with an antihistamine, such as a diphenylse or diphenylse-methoxymethylsalicylin, or with benzoyl peroxide. If an animal develops any of the above signs of allergy, be sure to use a food or water barrier. Cats with known hypersensitivity to buspirone or other anxiolytic medications should be treated with a benzoyl peroxide solution, but should be extra careful when used on animals with kidney disease. Dogs, cats, and other pets that are being treated with an antihistamine should also be closely monitored. Cats that develop hay fever or pet-fed diarrhea may also develop this side effect.
